Over two hundred years ago, on 29 January 1822, Cividale del Friuli saw the birth of one of the most important women of European and western theatre in the 19th century: Adelaide Ristori. To the ‘great actress’, who bewitched audiences around the world, the Soroptimist International d’Italia – Club Cividale del Friuli has annually, since 1998, dedicated the prize of the same name to the best artist of the previous edition of Mittelfest.
In 2024, the Adelaide Ristori Prize goes to Ksenija Martinović, author and performer at Mittelfest 2023 of Tesla, a show that, moving from the actress’s personal research and built on her performing body, weave the final stages of Nikola Tesla’s story and his relationship with Wall Street in our present.

Nine shows by artists under 30 have landed at Mittelyoung 2024: two of music, two of theatre, two of dance and three of circus, bringing young artists from Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia and Switzerland to Cividale del Friuli, after an open call that saw two hundred and fifty applications from all over Europe. The under-30 curatores who selected the nine shows will announce the three winners who will perform again at Mittelfest on July 20, 21 and 22.

What’s new in 2024 is a jury of experts, who are called upon to evaluate and showcase the best and most interesting proposals among those nine. The jurors for 2024 are three experienced professionals such as Alberto Bevilacqua, Veronika Brvar and Roberto Canziani.

RENÉ

If the world runs so fast that escape the eye and leaves those passing by lost, what to do? Take shelter within one’s own walls, watching what is happening outside from a screen, or jump into the centre of the frame as a protagonist? Or imitate the tightrope walker and navigate events, wobbling along one’s own slender path, suspended precariously towards the goal, amidst conflicts, illusions, races, hopes and other sumptuous disorders?
The die is not cast.
Mittelfest 2024 closes a trilogy, an ideal symphony of chaos that recounted the unexpected (imprevisti) in 2022, the inevitable (inevitabile) in 2023 and thus arrives, in 2024, at the theme disorders (disordini).
